I'm rather bias when it comes to Cristina Sabaiduc's designs. Over this past year she's become a close friend and through that friendship I've gained understanding to her creativity. Cristina has a discerning eye for colour, with a unique grasp of fusing strength with delicacy. Her designs celebrate the female form whilst being wearable and (dare I say it) comfortable. She puts intent into the fabrics used to feel natural and soft against the skin. When I asked her about this she said "I'm a nudest at heart, and I like to feel as though I've nothing on."
We met last season shooting for her AW13 look-book; I'd been asked to model the collection and felt truly honored to be wearing her stunning creations. I saw her collection evolve from the cutting board to showcase on schedule at London Fashion Week. This seasons however I was away whilst the creative production took place, seeing only teasers on Instagram provoking further curiosity. I flew home especially to make her Digital Presentation on the Monday and walked in with fresh eyes and a pure perceptive.
Co-directed and filmed by Timi of AoC this seasons film was tangential to the collection, with a strong spiritual bind to nature. It showcases the vibrant colours, also the movement of the fabrics as Parkour model Shirely Darlington hangs and leaps between branches of an ancient winding beech tree.
This beautiful conceptual film was shown on a loop as models showcased the collection 3 looks at a time.
It was the colour palette which engaged my fascination the most; the warm firey oranges, with mottled greens and sunny yellows were stunning, and reminiscent of colours in nature. The prints were created in collaboration with photographic artist Jo Holland (whom Cristina has worked with for previous seasons) They were loaned ancient stain-glass artifacts from the V&A which Jo captured using only an enlarger, positive photo paper and light. The colours were then digitally enhanced giving an incredibly unique and meaningful print.
It's going to be incredibly hard to shop from this collection and I've a feeling it's going to make up a big part of my Summer wardrobe. I want EVERYTHING!!!
